Crossing Desert, Populus Forests & the Tarim River on Horseback. Flat terrain, long canters, and plenty of space to let the horse move. The light turns soft in the late afternoon — perfect for sunset shots among the populus trees.
A Detour to Meet Desert Herders. The wetlands between dunes are grazing land. During the scouting trip, the team met a local shepherd and asked him to delay his seasonal move so riders could try herding for a day.
The "Waterworld" Hidden in the Deep Desert. Ride along the Tarim River, then ditch the horses for a boat. Whatever fish you catch becomes lunch and dinner. Doesn't get fresher than that.
Hooves in Water — In the Middle of the Sand. Shallow water hiding among the dunes. Populus trees all around. You ride right through it. Strange, beautiful, and something you won't find anywhere else.
Desert Beach Camping & a Secret Blue Lake. Spend the night by a lake inside the desert — sunrise and sunset over the "sea" of sand. Then ride to a hidden deep-blue lake circled by golden populus forests. Loop around it on horseback before heading out.
Check into the hotel in Korla. Dinner, then the guide goes over the itinerary.
Breakfast buffet at the hotel. Depart at 10am, 2-hour drive to the mounting point near the Taklamakan Desert.
Today's theme is the desert and populus crossing. Ride for 5–6 hours, 25km+.
12:00–14:00: Morning ride of 2 hours, about 15km. Arrive at the lunch stop.
14:00–16:00: Lunch for 2 hours. Eat, solo photos, and boating.
16:00–19:00: Afternoon ride of 3 hours, about 10km. Soft light in the afternoon, more time for photos.
After 6pm: Shoot the desert and populus at sunset.
Sunset around 7pm. Ride ends. Get in the car, head to the hotel and dinner.
Taklamakan Desert
Taklamakan DesertDay 2 breakfast buffet at the hotel. Depart at 10am, half-hour drive to the mounting point on the Tarim River.
Once on horseback, ride along the Tarim River. Morning ride about 15km, lots of cantering, heading toward the desert. Arrive at "Waterworld" deep in the desert at noon. Dismount, take a boat to catch fish. Whatever you catch becomes lunch and dinner — very fresh.
Afternoon: slow ride through the desert water populus. Horses hooves stepping in water right in the middle of the desert. A beautiful experience.
This place is hidden deep in the desert, unknown to most. No one comes here. We ride into this true desert paradise. Tonight we camp by the desert "sea," watching sunrise and sunset over the water. A rare and unique experience.
Taklamakan Desert
Taklamakan DesertRide Day 3: After breakfast, ride to the next destination — a secret desert lake. Under the sun, the water is deep blue. Populus trees surround the lake, colorful and stunning. The aerial shot is shown below. We'll ride in at noon, then circle this beautiful lake on horseback. Another one-of-a-kind riding experience.
Lunch by the lake. In the afternoon, take another route through the desert and across the Tarim River to ride out. Ride ends. Transfer to the hotel and dinner.

Tarim RiverThe last day has more cantering and a faster pace. Ride for 6–7 hours, covering 25km+.
Hulu Island is a scenic area known for its desert populus forests. Among all the populus spots in southern Xinjiang, we think Hulu Island is the most beautiful. So for the final stop, we'll reach it on horseback and explore its hidden, stunning side from the saddle.
