Songs and Dances of the Hui Nationality in Changji


The songs and dances of the Hui Nationality in northwestern China have a strong local feature, noted for its love songs and sweet dances, such as Hua'er (a folk song popular in Gansu, Qinghai and Ningxia Provinces), Ci and Qu performing in feast, Watching Peony, etc. The tunes of the songs are sweet and agreeable, and the dances graceful showing the Hui people's deep love for life. In 1955, the Changji Hui Autonomous Prefecture Song & Dance Troupe was organized. Since then, many programs of song and dance have been created. In addition, the troupe still makes circuits of performance in masses year after year.
