The Lin Zexu museum

Lin Zexu (1785-1850) held imperial envoy of the Qing Dynasty in 1839 and applied to ban opium-smoking and the opium trade in Guangzhou. In 1842, he was framed and removed from the post and banished to Ili. In 1994, the Lin Zexu Museum was built in Yining city for the 150th anniversary of his being exiled for penal servitude to Ili.
