Geys Mazar

It is believed that Geys was one of the three preachers send to China by Mohammed, the prophet of Islam, during the Zhengguan reign of the Tang Dynasty. He died in Xingxingxia Gorge when he was on the way back to report on completion of the mission. In 1945, Muslisms in Hami raised funds to rebuild the Marzar for Geys and reinter his relics. Facing south, the Mazar is an earth-timber construction of 15m high, with an arched roof and green glazed tiles paved on it. Around the Mazar is a garden and the circum stance is quite elegant and tranquil. Now it is listed as a major cultural site under the autonomous region protection.
